Hello! I am 26 years old and I have Down Syndrome. I love potatoes, meatloaf, noodles, and rice, but I am learning to make new choices. Now I eat more fruit and vegetable. Whenever my family and I go out to eat I choose vegetable and fruit instead of potatoes. When I workout at Fit For You I like punching the bag the best, and next I like walking and running on the treadmill. I am 14.5 pounds down and already my work vest fits better and I always have a smile when my parents pick me up from the gym.

I lost 55 pounds!!!!

I joined Fit For You Labor Day Weekend of 2011.  That was the point at which I was the heaviest in my life.  I knew that I was at a point in my life where I had to do something about my weight and health.  My biggest issue with my weight is that I never let it get in my way of living life.  So I in turn learned to live with my weight increasing and never hit a point where I couldn’t do what I wanted to do. In the summer of 2011 I changed jobs and started working with my father.  One stipulation of employment (between him and I, not the company) was that I did something about my weight.  My wife and I along with my parents all started going to Weight Watchers.  I chose to take it another step farther and joined Fit For You. I started going four to five days a week.  With the help of a trainer, we set up a training schedule that worked for me. A good combination of cardio and weights along with a complete reshape of my diet and lifestyle.  Since I started this journey I have lost 55 pounds, and strive to lose another 75 to 85 pounds.  I know I can do it.  I love Fit For You Health Club along with the atmosphere, the people, trainers, and the equipment.  All of it works into a place that I look forward to going to each morning.  I intend to remain a member at FFY for quite some time.  Thank you for creating a supporting and encouraging environment in which people can feel comfortable and feel that they can achieve their goals.

About 3 years ago I changed careers and became a REALTOR.  Since that time I added about 30 pounds as a result of not getting enough exercise and eating poorly.  With a 6 to 7 day work week, a very erratic schedule and no planned exercise the weight just kept piling on.  I knew the only way I would get this under control was to sign up for personal training, make a commitment and schedule the appointments on the calendar.  It worked!!  Since the end of September I have lost 22 pounds and even more importantly I know I am improving my health.  I have a goal of 45 lbs to lose and I am already halfway there.

When I started, I found out quickly how weak and out of shape I was.  The trainers worked with me and have gradually increased the weights and activity.  Now, my breathing has improved, my strength has increased significantly and the sessions seem to go by quickly.  This truly is one of the best things I have done for myself.  The staff and trainers at Fit For You have been great and have encouraged me every day.

Thank you to the entire Fit For You Staff.

I began my fitness journey in January of 2011.  With the help of my trainers, I have proved that through a lot of hard work, dedication, and self-discipline that anything is possible.  The Fit For You staff is always complimentary and encouraging, which makes me feel great. I have had great trainers that push me and motivate me like nobody else can. This has been a great experience for me on every level. My strength and energy level has multiplied. I went from a size 12 to a size 6 and gained a whole new me!!

I’ve learned to push myself when I work out alone, and not to fear the BURN!

Before

After

I was an obese child before they were common place.  In the 5th grade I weighed 168 lbs and shame associated with my weight was at the very core of who I would become.

Throughout teen and adulthood I have lost and gained hundreds and hundreds of pounds.  In 2009-2010 I lost 69 pounds but never established a committed exercise program.  Eventually I gained every pound back.  Approaching 50 years of age I was at my wits end! Bariatric surgery was a segue to embark on my journey to a lifetime of fitness.  Fit For You generously offers a three months free membership for post op bariatric patients.  This served as the impetus to get me to the gym.  I was reluctant initially. My trainers have encouraged me and impacted my plan for a lifelong fit lifestyle.  They reminded me of the need for proper and adequate nutrition, and challenge me with every session.  Through them I’ve learned to push myself when I work out alone, and not to fear the BURN!

My motivation to eat properly and achieve and maintain a normal BMI is no longer appearance based.  My true motivating factors now are vitality and longevity.  A healthy relationship with food and a commitment to fitness is a lifetime journey.

I accept the challenge.

“You have good muscles Grammy! You push us higher than Gramps!”

Four months ago, I walked into Fit For You with hopes of improving my health, losing the weight that had crept up on me over the years, and gaining stamina to keep up with my two grandsons (ages  3 and 4). The youngest will be 10 when I am 70. I want to take my grandsons hiking in the Smokey Mountains. Fit For You has helped me reach all my goals. My cholesterol from 246 to 150, I have 10 pounds off my middle, and my grandsons tell me that they want me to keep going to the gym.

“You have good muscles Grammy! You push us higher than Gramps!”

Thank You Fit For You and your awesome trainers. I didn’t think I could do this, but thanks to your gym I am enjoying a new lease on life.

This journey has given me my life back!!!

At 197 lbs,  5’2”, I was sick, tired, and no longer had the mind set that I could do and accomplish anything.  I was a fighter and I had lost the will to fight.   I didn’t want to travel or even go out because I never knew when I was going to feel so awful I just couldn’t function.  A local doctor directed me to a healthier eating plan, which helped me to loose 20lbs.  I still was not feeling like a healthy person, and I had the same fears and lack of fight.   I heard a Fit For You ad on the radio and decided to join with my husband.  Michelle convinced me to try having a personal trainer.  I went into that with arms crossed, not supporting the idea.  Since working with several of the trainers, I have lost another 25lbs and am so close to a grand total of 50lbs gone!  Having my husband by my side, working out with his personal trainer, and changing our life style together was HUGE for me.  My husband is my biggest fan, an inspiration to me, and I now feel like a teenager falling in love all over again.  To date, my health issues are minor, and the big concerns are not concerns anymore.  I’m amazed at the amount of strength that I have, the stamina, and what I can do that some people that look fit to me can not do.  This journey has given me my life back.  I’m not afraid to travel.  I’m not afraid to go out, and I even bought myself a sexy little black dress for the holidays.  I’m so excited to set new goals and reach them.  I have my fight back, and I know I can do and accomplish anything again.  By the way, a gym membership is not just an expense that’s a luxury for us anymore.  A gym membership is a non negotiable item in our budget, like heat in our home and food on the table.  I LOVE THAT! Thank you Fit For You and the family there.  You truly have become very special to me and I am so blessed to call you friends.

Putting the weight on was the easy part, getting it off was the fun part!

Putting the weight on was the easy part, getting it off was the fun part! The first weight loss challenge I needed to do. I learned I am stronger and more determined than I gave myself credit for. The second weight loss challenge I wanted to do. I knew what to expect and how to get results. I wanted to see how far I could push myself. Being bigger, you don’t think you can get smaller. I’ve dropped 3 pants sizes, but I have gained so much inner strength and determination. Thank you immensely to the wonderful trainers and staff at Fit For You. The new and improved Sara is here to stay!

I am feeling stronger, thinner and yes… younger!

Before

I had three goals when I started at Fit For You.  I wanted to be able to walk up steps one after another without putting two feet on one step and then going to the next one.  With my personal trainer I was able to accomplish this in one month!  WOW!  I had been going up steps SLOWLY for over a year.  Next I wanted to get more upper body strength.  I had never lifted weights before.  I had only done cardio exercises.  I could not believe the progress I made in such a short time.  Finally, I wanted to lose weight and feel good doing it.  Usually I felt weak and not myself when I lost weight.  This time I am feeling stronger, thinner and yes younger.  My trainer has pushed me and kept me inspired to continue to lose weight and get stronger.  He pushes with a smile!  Thanks to the staff at Fit For You I am more fit that I have been in years!

I lost 22 pounds!!!

Before

The picture was taken four months after I had quit smoking and about three weeks before I signed up for a personal trainer at Fit For You. My wife Nancy had been a member and had a personal trainer for those four months and had lost weight, was wearing smaller sizes in clothing and had more energy and confidence than I had seen in her in a long time. I realized that I was headed in the other direction and I decided I wanted those things too. My trainer does a great job of making sure that I am doing the exercises correctly and that I am getting the most out of my sessions. She points out any small gains that I have made and encourages me to do one more rep than I thought I could do. The entire staff at Fit For You has made getting into shape a pleasant experience.
